Description
The Spot Devices Real-Time Tracking and Arrival Notification Transit System not only provides transit arrival and trip planner information via browser, but also makes location-specific transit information available on large, outdoor, high-definition monitors.
In general, the Real-Time Tracking and Arrival Notification Transit System improves the transit experience of the frequent commuter, and encourages the inexperienced rider to use the transit system.
Operation
Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) modems on transit vehicles report locations in real time to the Spot Devices suite of System Infrastructure Management Applications (SIMA). This information is converted to arrival times and active map displays showing actual vehicle location and projected arrival times. For transit operations, there is: (1), automatic dispatch to map buses to the appropriate route; (2), online transit tracking for route management; and, optionally (3) traffic signal priority to speed transit vehicles through signal-controlled intersections.
